Dr. Shideler started his career as a serviceman in the United States Army, United States Coast Guard and United States Army Reserves. He has always been fascinated with history and politics and recently traced his family genealogy back seven generations. It turns out that six of his ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, and two ancestors fought and died in the 1066 Invasion of Normandy.
Dr. Shideler has received extensive medical training through his years in the military and in various university hospitals and medical practices. Dr. Shideler brings over 35 years of surgery experience to Sono Bello. He graduated with his BA from Washington & Jefferson College, and went on to study medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he received his medical degree. He was trained as a general surgeon and orthopedic surgeon in two separate residency programs at the United States Public Health Service Hospital in Staten Island, NY.
He has also finished fellowship programs in general and orthopedic surgery at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the University of Texas. He has worked in Vietnam as the Chief Surgeon for the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard. He was also the Chief of General Surgery at the United States Army Hospital and has been the Associate Professor of Surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco.
As an exclusive liposuction surgeon today at Sono Bello, Dr. Shideler is leading the advancements in techniques for laser-assisted liposuction surgery. He was originally trained by Professor Jeff Klein, M.D., who is considered the founder of modern day liposuction techniques, and has since taken his training and experience to advance the procedure even further with the use of SmartLipo technology and other advancements.
Dr. Shideler has a gentle touch when it comes to his work as a cosmetic surgeon, but he also has a blue belt in Shota-kan Karate. Suffice to say that he can hold his own. He first learned to ski when he was 52 years old, and now likes to stick to mostly the expert black diamond trails on the mountain. He enjoys doing long distance bicycle rides, having finished the 200 mile ride between Seattle and Portland three times, and he tries to read three books per month.
