Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Gellis has spent most of his life in Michigan.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1971.  He began his career at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, as a General Surgery Resident, followed by Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery for two years.  Since 1977 he has been Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Gellis has published many articles on important cosmetic and reconstructive topics. He has performed thousands of complicated operations.  His affiliations include the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Midwestern Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Gellis was Chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Beaumont Hospital (1100 beds) for eleven years managing the activities of 26 plastic surgeons.  He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.

Dr. Gellis is married to Marysue and they have three grown children: Erin, Wendi, and Scott.  His hobbies include playing guitar, photography, and travel.
