Four Fashion and Beauty Ideas From Westeros
The world of Westeros, the land featured in the popular Song of Ice and Fire Books by George RR Martin and the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” is known for being a harsh and unforgiving place.
Much of the drama ensues as a number of factions go to war to determine who should sit on the Iron Throne and rule the land. However, among all the battles there is much beauty too. Look at some of the most exciting fashion and beauty statements made in the series. Who knows, you may find some inspiration for your look too!
The Braids – Some of the most memorable hairstyles in the show have been the braids featured on Daenerys Targaryen, also known as “Mother of Dragons” or “Khaleesi” as well as Sansa Stark and some of the other characters too. From simple fishtail braids to more complex styles, these ladies have worn a number of styles and proven that the braid is one of the top hairstyle trends in the land.
Hoods – In Winterfell and north of the wall, “Winter is Coming.” This means keeping your head warm and dry is a must. Hats are so yesterday in the world of Westeros. Check out some of the hoods worn by the ladies (and gentlemen for that matter) up north. These are often standalone pieces that can work to bring a rugged style to nearly any outfit. Who knows, maybe Game of Thrones will make hoods the next big trend like scarves have been the past few years.
Wrap Dress – The wrap dress, worn by a number of the female characters, has infiltrated stores the past year or so. This could be sheer coincidence, but it is exciting to see styles from this show become commonplace enough to find at your average department store.
Impressive Sleeves – This hasn’t exactly caught on—yet—but some of the dresses and robes worn in Game of thrones feature long, flowing sleeves. This is certainly a trend that has been popular in years past. It would not be surprising to see a resurgence of this style—as it has a classic appeal that works well on many body types.
So whether you are “Team Stark,” “Team Lannister,” “Team Dragons,” or you root for one of the others, spend a little while absorbing how much effort goes into the fashion and style on the show. Who knows, you may find your next awesome look from a very unexpected place.
