The Upside: Workout Wear for the Future
New brands of workout gear are springing up left and right. It’s never been easier to both look cute and be comfy at the gym. But would you wear your gym clothes out to dinner? One brand that’s been generating a lot of buzz for offering high-fashion active wear that can be worn outside the gym is a new line called The Upside from designer Jodhi Meares.
The line was first unveiled at Vogue Fashion’s Night Out this fall. It might sound strange for a line of active wear to be revealed on a night that usually focuses on couture, but this is no ordinary line of workout gear! The Upside features pieces that can easily transition from the yoga studio to a night out. Sounds crazy, right?
Jodhi Meares was frustrated by not being able to find workout gear she felt she could go out in public in, so she was inspired to create her own line. The Upside features everything from leggings to tops, jackets, hoodies, and even catsuits. I’m willing to bet you’ve never worked out in a full leopard-print catsuit before. Well, now you can. Seriously.
The line claims to feature clothes that reflect a fashion future that’s just around the corner, a future in which the lines between casual and office wear are blurred. I’m not sure I want to see a future in which it’s ok to wear a crop top to the office, but I might wear some of The Upside’s cute tanks and leggings to exercise in.
The Upside features edgy colors and bold prints. You’ve definitely never seen workout gear like this before. From leopard-print to neon orange paisley, these fabric definitely aren’t boring. Although some of the pieces are completely out there, there are some more subdued options in the form of basic tanks, shorts, and leggings. Right now they only offer women’s clothing, but there is a men’s section coming soon.
A portion of all proceeds are donated to the Cambodian Children’s Trust, which is a non-profit NGO that works with vulnerable populations in Cambodia. The Upside also places an emphasis on eco-friendly clothing. According to its website, the line is designed to promote physical and spiritual health. I’m not sure if cute gym clothes promote spiritual wellbeing, but they certainly help with motivation for working out!
You can learn more about The Upside from their website. The line is now available for purchase online and in select stores.
