To Meat, or Not to Meat? The Great Vegan Question

The vegan diet is becoming increasingly popular among celebrities. From Natalie Portman to Kristen Bell and Carrie Underwood, this health trend is spreading across Hollywood. Celebs are giving up on meat and shedding pounds as a result. Veganism is more than just a fad diet; it’s a significant lifestyle change. It seems to be paying off for many celebs who commit to the meat-free, dairy-free, and egg-free diet.

Health is only one of many reasons to go animal-free; some stars give up animal products to stand up for animal welfare or the environment. Christian Bale comes from a family of animal rights activists who inspires his veganism, while rapper NeYo decided to test his discipline by trying the diet. Kristen Bell and her husband Dax Shepherd decided to go vegan after seeing the controversial film Forks Over Knives.

Whatever their reasons are for switching to a vegan diet, celebrities have been reaping the health benefits. Kelly Osbourne credits veganism with helping her reach her goal weight. Actresses like Jessica Chastain and Ginnifer Goodwin claim being vegan lets them eat as much food as they want without counting calories. From svelte figures to more stamina, many stars claim to feel their best when not eating meat. A vegan lifestyle has also been associated with clear skin, increased energy, and reduced risk of certain health conditions like heart disease.

Interested in trying the vegan trend yourself? Start by cutting animal products out of one or two meals per week, then work up to a completely vegan diet. Make sure you’re getting plenty of healthy protein from sources like beans and tofu. It’s a good idea to check with your doctor or a nutritionist to make sure you’re getting all of your essential vitamins and nutrients.

A vegan diet can be dangerous if it isn’t done right. Celebs usually have an army of nutritionists, personal trainers, and other health professionals behind them; give yourself the celebrity treatment and make sure you get an expert opinion before any drastic diet changes!

Even if you’re not interested in trying out the vegan lifestyle, you can still try your hand at some delicious celebrity vegan recipes. Try these vegan pancakes from Ellen DeGeneres for a tasty and healthy morning treat, or this vegan twist on enchiladas from Paul McCartney.

What do you think; could you survive without meat and dairy?
