It’s been a long, dark winter, but we’re finally nearing the end. Daylight Saving Time starts March 12, which means an extra hour of daylight to enjoy in the evenings. No more leaving work in the dark and heading home to binge watch Netflix. It’s time to get outside and enjoy the sun!
Not sure what to do with the extra hour of daylight? Here are some suggestions for how to make the most of Daylight Savings Time and “spring forward” with your fitness routine!
If you take public transportation or drive to work, consider walking for all or part of your commute instead. The extra light in the afternoon makes a walking or biking commute much safer (and more fun!). Try taking the bus in the morning and walking home in the afternoon to enjoy the sun and unwind from your day.
Take a Sunset Yoga Class
As sunset moves later and later in the day, you end up with more time to sign up for a sunset yoga class. During these relaxing classes you will salute the sun as it sets while acclimating your body to the changing light and releasing any stress gathered throughout the day.
Do Some Yard Work
The snow is melting and spring is in sight. Now that you have some extra daylight to burn, why not get to work making sure your yard is summer barbeque ready? Yard work can be great exercise. Get the whole family involved and your lawn and gardens will be looking great in no time (and you’ll all be healthier for it!).
Take Your Workout Outside
If your after-work routine involves a trip to the gym, try moving your workout outside instead. Mixing things up can be a great way to stay engaged and not get bored with your workouts. You’ll also get some fresh air and soak up some vitamin D!
