Demystifying 6 Myths About Liposuction

If you’ve never undergone a liposuction procedure yourself, you probably have heard a lot about it before. After all, liposuction is a very common cosmetic procedure, and thousands of people–from famous celebrities to regular people fo all ages–choosing the procedure each year.

But despite its popularity and decades of successful procedures, liposuction still has many common misconceptions surrounding it… and that could play a big role in keeping people from achieving their desired body shape through liposuction.

At Sono Bello we’ve heard all the myths and legends, and we’re here to set the record straight. These are some of the myths we hear most often, and the real facts behind liposuction that everyone considering the procedure should know.

Myth #1: Liposuction Will be Too Painful

This may be among the most common misconceptions people hold about liposuction: that the procedure is too painful, and that the recovery period means extended pain well after the procedure is done.

Fortunately, this just isn’t the case–and modern advancements in liposuction have a lot to do with that.

The Facts:

The reality is that pain varies from person to person, but most of our patients report only mild discomfort during the procedure and throughout the short recovery period.

Additionally, Sono Bello’s TriSculpt® procedure is performed using local anesthesia while the patient is awake. This allows the patient to let the doctor know if they are experiencing any discomfort so adjustments can be made.

Myth #2: The Fat Will Return Somewhere Else

One of the most common myths about liposuction is that it only “temporarily” removes fat from the body, and that over time fat will simply return even after the procedure is over.

In reality, this is simply not true. Once removed, fat does not “come back,” especially when liposuction is combined with healthy lifestyle changes.

The Facts:

Liposuction does not “shrink” fat cells, it actually removes them from the body completely. These fat cells cannot grow back, and they do not reappear in new areas of the body.

By eating right and exercising regularly, you can maintain your new shape and prevent future weight gain.

Myth #3: Liposuction is Only for Women

For some reason, there is a prevailing notion that liposuction is a procedure reserved exclusively for women, and that men rarely if ever undergo liposuction to remove stubborn fat.

Not only is this a narrow view of people’s desire to achieve their ideal body shape, but it also significantly undercounts the many men who choose liposuction to reduce stubborn fat pockets each and every year.

The Facts:

Anyone is a candidate for liposuction! At Sono Bello, we have transformed the lives of countless people, men and women included. Stubborn fat doesn’t distinguish by gender, and so liposuction shouldn’t either.

Myth #4: Liposuction is Only for Celebrities

Because liposuction is (famously) popular among celebrities, it’s a common assumption that liposuction is either a) too exclusive or b) too expensive for average people to access.

Fortunately, while your favorite stars may choose liposuction for themselves,  the procedure itself is now more accessible and affordable for anyone than ever before.

The Facts:

Although many celebrities do get liposuction, the procedure is attainable for anyone! The body you’ve been dreaming of may be more affordable than you think.

Our patients are often surprised by how affordable Sono Bello procedures are. Additionally, we work with reputable financing companies to offer a variety of payment plans that meet almost any budget.

Myth #5: Liposuction Leaves Big Scars

One of the biggest fears that people unfamiliar with liposuction bring to the table is around scarring, and whether or not liposuction will leave lasting and noticeable scars a the incision sites.

Nowadays, liposuction is specifically designed to minimize scarring and reduce recovery time, all while providing the same quality fat removal you’d expect.

The Facts:

There are now all kinds of minimally invasive liposuction procedures out there to help you achieve your desired look. these typically use smaller incisions and smaller equipment to minimize swelling and provide much faster and cleaner recovery.

Sono Bello’s TriSculpt micro-laser liposuction procedure is minimally invasive. The incisions made are very small, and most of our patients report little to no scarring after recovery. With appropriate skin care and adequate time, you will likely not even notice your incision site.

Myth #6: I’m Too Old for Lipo

Ironically, even though older people may be more likely to struggle with stubborn fat pockets that won’t respond to diet or exercise, there is still a prevailing belief that liposuction is “only for young people.”

In reality, it only takes one look at the average age of liposuction patients to understand that liposuction is truly a procedure for people of all ages, and can help even older people achieve their desired body shape.

The Facts:

Don’t let age hold you back from the body you deserve! Almost anyone in good health is a candidate for liposuction, regardless of age.
