The second appointment with the surgeon is where it all went wrong. He was incredibly rude and insulting. He accused me of lying on the medical history because I forgot a detail about a family member’s health condition 30 years ago.
They took pre-op pictures of me in underwear, then refused my procedure stating I was high risk. The professional thing would have been to have me consult with the surgeon BEFORE having me strip down for embarrassing photos.

If you are debating and hesitating because you have a low pain tolerance, or if surgery makes you nervous, the team here did an excellent job in managing comfort/recovery. Only removed a star because I very rarely receive back timely responses and assistance from the office staff. You have to chase down and follow up on everything. If they tell you they will call you back they rarely do that. So you wind up having to call multiple times over a week or two. “The process with Sono Bello San Antonio was very easy.
Initial Consult: I was very comfortable. I was able to discuss cost/ financing. They allowed me to ask lots of questions and play with numbers so I knew what my budget would be.
Pre-Op: very quick meeting with the doctor and nurse to discuss what to expect as results and day of procedure. Afterwords, the nurse went into more details of medication pre-surgery and water and food intake after the procedure
Procedure Day: WOW-WEE! This was an exciting yet anxious day. The nurse in the beginning was nice. She placed an IV port in my arm and gave me the calming/ relaxation pills. She did a good job because I have small, rolling veins and she hit it on the first try and no bruising. The procedure itself, you are wide awake but I did drift in and out of it. The doctor was kind and had a great bedside manner. The once or twice I did feel slight pain he was apologetic. The doctor’s assistant during the suturing was also so kind and gentle. She even messaged me a few days later to send me splash pads for me to take my son to and check in on me.
Post-Procedure: the doctor himself actually called that night to check on me. That is very rare! The next couple of days after nurses called to see how I was feeling or if I had any questions or concerns. The best call was on day 2 when she told me I could shower the next day.
A few things I would have liked to address prior and post procedure. First, as a past bariatric sleeve patient- it is hard for me to consume large volumes of water and food. It would be nice to have some advice on how to best achieve the post- procedural nutritional needs. Secondly, the anesthesia caused severe constipation. Knowing I have issues with anesthesia, I prepped myself days prior to procedure with stool softeners. After the procedure, I had to take it into my own hands to get a “poor man’s colon cleanse,” when I asked the doctor for something it wasn’t strong enough to get rid of the constipation.
Overall, it was a good experience with all involved. I appreciate all the helpful individuals along the way.”

“Everyone at SB was wonderful. The nurses and surgeon were all very helpful and answered all my questions. There was no “sell” from them (that part was earlier), but once you’ve moved into the evaluation phase it is all about the pros and cons and making sure you have realistic expectations. The staff was really great at following up and making sure I was aware of appointments and flexible about rescheduling when needed.”

“I called office at Sontera Blvd. to ask just one question. I couldn’t get the last part of my statement out before the receptionist said what is your phone number and zip code? I said I had a question. Again, on repeat, what is your number and zip! I recognize this organization is filling third party requests to surgeons in SA. But if you can’t answer the simplest of questions (is there any procedure for same day?) then you need to train up staff or bite the bullet and pay a nurse to answer phones.”

I just had the ABEX done 😆 and I had the most greatest experience with Sonobello. My nurse Nikki was so very nice, she made me so comfortable, we talked as she was getting me ready for my surgery. She answered all of my questions. Dr, Kunasz was my surgeon that performed my procedure snd he was phenomenal, he answered all of my questions as well. Checked. my body to make sure the ABEX was a good decision for me. He was very honest and explained everything in detail. When I arrived back home after my surgery I rested the first couple of days, I was not in bad pain it was more Iike pressure pain but it came even I would move about my house but it s never consistent. I can’t wait for my post op appointment to thank the staff and Dr Kunasz, they were so great and I ei definitely return if I want any other body contouring. Sonobello is the best 👍🏽😁”

The warm treatment has been feeling amazing and with the proper nutrition and water intake, I have been seeing the results slowly. “I had a tummy tuck for a guy. I have been battling weigh all my life. I used to be 345lbs and now I am down to 210lbs (with a lot of muscle). My problem was having the skin on my belly of a 345lb man. The Dr. S. and the whole team at sonobello made me feel right at ease and answered all my questions and concerns. I remember nothing of the surgery except for seeing the amount of skin removed and the fat that was sucked out to correct my shape. I am in almost no pain after surgery, basically after the weekend I was totally fine. I got to see the before pictures and my 1 month postop pictures and I am amazed! I still have some swelling as was to be expected, but wow do I look awesome! All of the time I wasted hating my stomach and I could have done this years ago. The cherry on top was they were 1/2 the price the other plastic surgeons quoted me! Thank you to Sonobello and the amazing staff for giving this man a reason to take his shirt off again!

“If u want a tummy tuck find a good doctor that will do a full tummy tuck. I got a tummy surgery here & it wasn't great, not 14k great. I asked why my stomach looks like this & basically they said, thats the best we can do & that they can do another lipo to see if it helps. Who wants to do another surgery? I have kids & stuff to do. This procedure is a year long recovery. So before u go here check out other doctors. It's the same recovery time.

“The results are fabricated. This is me after having Abex. Fat removal for upper abs, lower abs and sides. You be the judge. Do your homework!! Do not go to sono bello. Dr Schaner did a horrible job and gave me false hope. I was left with high expectations with how I would view myself after my procedure. My procedure was in September and I was told by the nurses I would see results in January. Now in April, I am told this is visceral fat and I should not have had the procedure. Dr Schaner put me and my health at risk. His partner physician stated it should not have been done. Please look at all the reviews the results are false. Look at the pictures of the fake patients. They are hired actors!!!”

“I had a terrible experience. I had my doctor screaming at me during the procedure telling me to rollover on my side and I didn't move fast enough. I mean I was drugged.
The results were terrible, so terrible that my wife of 23 years still doesn't know that I had the procedure done. She didn't notice anything. In fact I looked worse because most of what he did take off was from the wrong area. I ended up going to Seguin to get it done correctly.(Which was $3000 cheaper)
I would not suggest Dr. Shaner. Just my opinion.

“I cannot express enough DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! 15,000 wasted for the doctor to tell me I need to lose weight. If people wanted to do more dieting and exercise they wouldn't go to sono bello for treatments. I was given false expectations for results I never saw. I was told I had 15lbs of fat removed that I never saw on my scale. I had several appointments where I waited 40mns after my scheduled time with no apology. I was given several appointments where I was told I wasn't scheduled. I took time off from work to go to these appointments. The lack of care afyer the service has been billed is sad. They are more worried about the quantity than the quality. I have lost no weight and see minimal difference. I wish I would have had the more evasive procedure with someone else than to be crushed with the lack of results. It has caused depression and hardship and not to mention the money lost from days of work being missed for the actual procedure and follow up appointments. If you have other options go with them do not waste your time. I will tell you do not waste your money or money!! Dr Schaner performed procedures on me that I wasn't even a candidate for. Abex is falsely advertised to remove fat a give you a flat tummy. LIES!!! I t cannot remove visceral fat. Which if you are a licensed plastic surgeon you would know and not perform the procedure. Dr Schaner put my life and health at risk.”

Not going to lie I was scared to come in because of the opening that happened in some areas on my stomach. But she truly calmed me down. I have been trying to do everything by the book.
So it might help dummy’s like me to explain how much protein your body needs. I did not know 1 gram per pound. I’m totally in shock I was no where near that amount. Thank you everyone for your kindness and support. I have to go eat some protein now.. lol
Also the smoking thing is a serious concern and to be honest that was not stressed or pushed on me before surgery only when I met the Dr. for the first time. To get the discount the sooner you do it the better your discount so after consult I had the surgery like 5 days later. I read the paperwork it said a week before the Dr. said 2 weeks before. Then another paper said 2 weeks after. So I know it’s a bad ugly habit. But it is an addiction. It’s very hard to quit cold turkey.”

“They upsold me "necessary" Venus treatments after my procedure and then said that they denied me due to my immune disorder- three months later. There was no post op appointment, no one checked me except to take a few pictures. There was no follow through and no one checked on me after the procedure. I haven't noticed a significant difference after spending almost $10,000. And even though they said they would refund the amount for the procedures they didn't do, they did not refund the amount they originally charged me. There's no point in going back to my six-month appointment because they don't do anything at the three month or any of their postop sessions. The entire process was way overpriced, and did not provide any benefit to my life or appearance.”

“I wanted to commend the staff at the sonterra park location. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by Victoria who was very welcoming and informative. My wait time was very short and then I met with my consultant who was Denise. She too was very informative about the process and gave me her personal experience. Through the interaction that I had with her, my decision to do the procedure was made easily. So I scheduled my appointment at there earliest appointment which was about 3 weeks later. The next day I went in for my next appointment were I would meet Niki and Dr. Friedman. They too were very informative about the procedure and the process and all my questions were answered. Before my appointment was over they gave me great news and said that I can have my procedure done in 3 days which was what I originally wanted. The day of my surgery came and it went very well. It was a bit uncomfortable but that was explained so it was not unexpected. The next few days as I was recovering, I wanted to confirm somethings that were going on with my procedure and so I called the office and left a message for the nurse to call me. Denise who is the Nurse at the time call me quickly and answered all of my questions and concerns. She was very kind and she truly made me feel not like a patient but like a good friend. That made me feel even more comfortable and confident that I chose the best place for my procedure. My first post op appointment I finally was able to meet Denise the Nurse. The moment I saw her I knew that she was the one who had helped answer all my questions over the phone. She is very charismatic, caring, sympathetic I am so happy that she is part of my group of team members. My recovery is going well as well as can be expected and I look forward to visiting the employees at Sonterra Park Sonobello. They are all magnificent. “It was not good at all!! They tell you one thing to get your money, which is a lot of thousands and thousands of dollars, to not only remove some of the fat but not even up to the amount was allowed by the “law”. Then they don’t inform you at the time of the procedure that they are bringing in a student teach. The student teach should be observing, but instead does the entire procedure which was painful (she was rough) while the doctor “observing” is on the phone the entire time talking to who knows who. After going home the pain and bruising was so incredible bad, bruising was a color of black and scary. Which prior to the procedure they told me that I could go to work, which I had to call in. Had I known I could have made arrangements to take off, not easy to call in.This place is an incredible huge RIP OFF!! My advice, DON’T waste your money!”

“Warning Long Post Ahead
From my perspective any elective procedure is a huge investment of time and money. Most of us will research other patient experiences prior to selecting someone to trust with our personal goals. I hope my review is helpful to anyone considering cosmetic surgery. This encompasses multiple body areas divided into 2 surgical days over about four weeks.
The pros of sono bello was the ease of scheduling, the clean practice and for the most part punctual appointments. I found the front desk pleasant and helpful with occasional high call volumes. The surgeons were knowledgeable and provided their personal cell phone for any significant post-operative issues. Included in my package was post op appointments and healing treatments. My technician during the healing treatments gets a big A+.
The cons for me were the post op appointments. My initial post op appointment was routine, but unfortunately when the staff member was encouraging me and praising my progress with my pre and post op photos, she failed to realize she was showing me another patient's pictures pre surgical, but more alarmingly did not recognize the pre op photos had large color tattoos where I have none. My second appointment with the same provider I voiced initial concern they again had the wrong patient when some of the history she discussed was inconsistent and asked her to recheck the chart. The nurse stated she remembered the last visit and it was the "first and last time that ever happened". She reviewed the paper record and stated it was correct and proceeded with the appointment. And then... she called me by a different patient's name. Again, my request was to recheck the demographics. After excusing herself for several minutes, she returned stating it was another staff member's fault for providing her the wrong chart. The rest of the encounter was not comfortable for either of us. She did not visually inspect my multiple incisions, and she did not really offer any additional post op information of value.
To be fair, I did not insist or demand a physical exam but was expecting one, as this is a postoperative visit and had mentioned to the initial technician some issues with my incision (my largest one is over 20 inches in length). My expectation was they would want to evaluate me in-office. Only my weight was checked. However, even if she had asked me to remove my robe, my confidence in her medical advice was nil after misidentifying me twice.
Needless to say, from a respect standpoint it is nice if someone knows your name after you invest thousands of dollars in their business. There is also a safety element. There is no point in a post op visit if you do not know who you are speaking with or what procedures were done or you are not going to look at the incisions.
If not for the aftercare, I would have rated much higher. Unfortunately this is a package experience and so far the post op appointments have detracted from my overall satisfaction. I still have an additional post op visit and healing treatment to schedule and may update my review then.”

They tell you that they’re not a weight-loss clinic but also show you what you’re going to look like after the LIPOSUCTION surgery. They told me that I’d lose 3-5 inches on my arms, and more of my waist.
They tell you that the surgery won’t work unless you diet & exercise and that you are not going to see any results for 3 to 6 months. Well, if I changed my diet and began to exercise without liposuction I would see results on my own in 3 to 6 months. So what exactly is the point of paying $10,000 for surgery and for them to tell me that I need to change my diet and exercise.
I made it VERY clear that my diet isn’t going to change due to my line of work and I am unable to exercise due to my injuries. The ‘doctor’ didn’t seem to truly understand my line of work and seem to think that I was lying or making excuses. Either way she never once told me that I wasn’t a good candidate for this surgery since I wouldn’t be changing my lifestyle. And I made it abundantly clear that my diet, although not a terrible diet, wasn’t going to change.

I did my inner thighs and the surgeon did suggest I get my knees since it might be disproportionate and I sadly didn’t have enough money to add it and I’m greatly disappointed that I didn’t. I now don’t like my legs! I don’t think the surgeon could take enough fat out since he was trying to not take too much so my knees don’t look weird! I don’t this is the surgeons fault more mine since I couldn’t do the added area! Therefore Do inner thighs and knee fat!

If you do your back PLEASE do all the back areas I regret not getting my upper back…it’s not tooo noticeable but there is a difference. Bras are tricky to wear since my upper back is bigger than my lower back…I think they call it the bra area?! Not sure but all in all get it ALL areas and you’ll have better results.
I did my chin area as well and as it’s does have less fat I wish it was more defined maybe that’s more of a in depth plastic surgery so I wish I could’ve done my arms instead.
The reasons I couldn’t do all areas that were recommended were because I was trying to do a little bit of diff sections with the money I had but that was completely wrong…If you’re going to do this just spend that ton of money and get everything done and have great results the first time because instead of getting rid of my insecurities I just created new ones. I don’t have any money to come in and fix my mistakes and now have to deal with it naturally which is hard!!

Getting ready I was very nervous I had a full surgery last year but my body healed a little different Sono Bello fixed that with no issues. Went in to do my surgery and Ashley was in the room with me she was so helpful and amazing she knew how nervous I was and made she to calm me down her smile can light up a room! So Thank You Ashley for your support! Dr. Schaner is an Amazing Doctor he made sure as well what he was going to do and just calmed me down and told me step by step what he was going to do! Just amazing. I hate pain and they made sure I was comfortable. He called me the same night to check on me just an amazing Doctor. Thank You Dr. Schaner!

She stayed right by my side and made sure I was doing ok from the start of the procedure until the end. I really appreciate everything she did for me! My doctors were great as well. “The nurses and staff were so caring and accommodating! I’m a nurse so I know good care when I see it! Dr. Schaner was very thorough in making sure the procedure was safe for my medical history and he put me at ease about the whole process. I’m 4 days post op and the results are fantastic so far! I definitely have more of an hour glass figure again and I haven’t seen my waist line look like this since pre-pregnancy days even with weight loss. I’m really looking forward to the results as the swelling diminishes in the coming weeks and I’m excited to feel more confident in a swimsuit next summer!”
