Phillip Lackey M.D., FACS
Dr. Phillip Lackey, MD, was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, a town famously known as the “Hit Recording Capital of the World” and home to the iconic “Muscle Shoals Sound” and “The Swampers.” Located along the “Singing River,” a stretch of the Tennessee River bordered by the TVA Wheeler, Wilson, and Pickwick lakes, Muscle Shoals instilled in him a deep appreciation for both music and community.
Dr. Lackey has built a life and career rooted in excellence, starting with his academic achievements. He earned the prestigious title of Presidential Scholar at the University of Alabama, followed by graduating Magna Cum Laude from Auburn University, where he was also inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society that recognizes academic excellence. Continuing his education at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Dr. Lackey was awarded the Russell Academic Scholar honor, as well as the VA Outstanding Student recognition. He later distinguished himself as the Outstanding Intern at the University of Alabama Birmingham’s Department of Surgery.
As a surgeon, Dr. Lackey believes in treating each patient while considering their overall health, individual needs, and long-term goals. His approach is deeply personal and focused on achieving the best aesthetic and functional outcomes for every patient. His philosophy of care ensures that all surgical interventions align with the patient’s well-being and long-term success.
Dr. Lackey is devoted to his wife Mollie and their five children: Elizabeth, Bela, Payne, Mary Charlotte, and Griffin. When he is not operating, he is an avid sports fan, having recently transitioned from a lifelong love of college football to a passion for hockey. He also enjoys running outdoors for fitness, often accompanied by his dogs. Additionally, he plays multiple musical instruments and aspires to become proficient in playing the bagpipes.
Dr. Lackey is committed to community outreach and service. He supports a wide range of programs, including the Wikipedia Foundation, PBS, and various youth initiatives across Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic communities. He has also contributed to local school pantry and backpack programs, helping to ensure that children in need have access to nutritious food.
